ZDHC has implemented the IPEV Project to reduce environmental impact and improve working conditions and to increase sustainable production through Industrial Parks by reaching out to multiple factories and partner facilities on solutions for better sustainable chemical management and wastewater management practices with individual suppliers.
The garment industry employs more than 75 million workers worldwide. The sector forms the backbone of the economies of many developing countries and increasingly contributes to female employment opportunities. However, many times the apparel and footwear value chain dynamics are such that cost price and wage pressure in fast fashion, combined with weak regulatory schemes in various countries, result in unstable working conditions while also creating high environmental impacts.
The IPEV Project, which is the main part of the INSTEP Programme, organized a training program with Industrial Parks and individual suppliers in Ethiopia and Vietnam from 20 to 24 November to implement the use of ZDHC guidelines and solutions towards better sustainable chemical management and wastewater management practices.
Additionally, the ZDHC Solutions 2023 Conference will be held in Shanghai on December 12.
