The fair was organized for the 12th time with participation from over 20 countries and over 1300 buyers. Cengiz Sarıgül, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Leather Garments Manufacturer’s Association (TDKD), who shared the information that the demand for participants was very high despite the embargoes imposed on Russia, the main market of the sector, at the fair held on May 16-19, stated that a very important part of the sector’s exports was realized with this fair.
SHAPING THE WORLD LEATHER INDUSTRY AND LEATHER FASHION
Stating that this fair organized in Antalya keeps the sector alive, Sarıgül said, “If there is no fair, the leather garment market will not make a single innovation, everyone will step on the brakes. This will cause a huge decrease in employment. There is no other place where 5 thousand models are prepared every year.
There are buyers coming from the EU countries, especially from the former Soviet countries, and from America. The feedback after the fair is very good, but there is an inflation problem all over the world. The countries we sell products to have problems with money. Since it is a dollar-based product, the dollar is gaining value in all countries, so the purchase has weakened. There is a big inflation in the countries where we sell products, just like us.”
Sarıgül, noted that there has not been a decline in the arrival of customers from Russia, on the contrary, the demand is very high despite the money transfer problem, and said, “Despite the weak business among the sellers, they all show great interest in this fair. Because they know that it is not possible to find such good companies, such collections and people who do this job elsewhere and they show great interest in this fair.” said.
95 PERCENT OF THE SECTOR PRODUCTIONS EXPORTS
Sharing the information that world brands are produced in Turkey, Sarıgül said, “We need to get a wind behind us. Otherwise, exporters will not make it through this year. We have almost no sales in the domestic market. 95 percent of production goes to exports. Sales in tourism regions are keeping the sector afloat right now. Without any incentives and support, we are trying to keep all companies fresh and revitalize the sector with this fair in the midst of so many difficulties experienced by forcing our own means. Our expectation from the authority is that they provide incentives and support for the sector to survive.”
