Turkey’s most modern leather processing facility in Uşak, (UBDIT) ‘Uşak Bovine Leather Processing Facility’ which is jointly financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union and supported within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, consists of 8 thousand square meters of indoor space. It has a total area of ​​10 thousand square meters.

The “Uşak Bovine Leather Processing Facility” (UBDIT), jointly financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union and supported by the Competitive Sectors Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, has a total area of ​​10 thousand square meters, 8 thousand square meters of which is closed. UBDIT, which is intended to be one of the most modern common use facilities in Turkey in the field of cattle hide processing with 35 machines and equipment, has a daily capacity of processing approximately 20 tons of cattle leather. Uşak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Uşak Commodity Exchange and Uşak University also provide support as the main stakeholders to UBDIT, where Uşak Leather (Mixed) Organized Industrial Zone is the final beneficiary and Zafer Development Agency is the project partner.

İbrahim Karahallı, Chairman of the Board of Uşak Leather Organized Industrial Zone, stated that 65 percent of the sheep leather still processed in Turkey is made in Uşak and said: “Uşak is a city that has proven its expertise in this matter both at home and abroad. it is used in the production of clothes and the demand for leather garments has been decreasing both in Turkey and in the world since 2010. Besides, prices are decreasing. Therefore, we encourage our leather industrialists in Uşak, which is the main input of shoes, bags and saddlery products, which are obligatory consumer goods. UBDIT will be one of the most modern common use facilities in Turkey with 35 machinery and equipment supplied from local and foreign companies. Thanks to our project, leather industry industrialists’ production and market It will be possible to diversify and improve their membrane capacity.”

A New Era Begins in the Leather Industry

It was stated that the industrialists who have great experience in sheep leather processing also had gains with UBDIT.

UBDIT Chairman of the Board of Directors İbrahim Karahallı said, “The newly opened UBDIT has the opportunity to process bovine leather at very low costs without any investment. It was possible to use their time efficiently, increase their competitive power, and reach new markets in the country and abroad without experiencing any problems with production and workmanship. “By processing the bovine leather used in the production of products, they improved their business and increased the income of the companies. The leather industry, which currently works for 6-8 months, has been able to produce continuously for 12 months.”

Pointing out that with the facility, leather manufacturers have the opportunity to supply products to sectors with high profitability such as furniture and automotive, at the forefront of the market, “Our industrialists also have the opportunity to do business with the Uşak Leather Cluster established within the scope of the project, and they also have the opportunity to benefit from the state supports given to the clusters.”

Exemplary Facility with Environmental Sensitivity

While realizing the Uşak Bovine Leather Processing Project, which will be one of the most modern cattle leather processing facilities in Turkey, great importance was attached to waste management. UKOSB has a waste water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 24 thousand cubic meters, which is constantly inspected by the Uşak Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization. The wastewater of the cattle hide processing plant, which has an EIA Report according to the European Union norms, will be connected to the existing wastewater channel and will be treated in the treatment system.

He was born in 1986 in Uşak, Turkey. His grandfather had a tannery in Uşak in the 1900s and his father had stores in Istanbul Beyazit, Tbilisi and Moscow and a workshop in Zeytinburnu, so he spent his childhood in his father's leather shop. In 2009, after graduating from Marmara University Journalism Department in Turkey, he started his first journalism career in the national press. He completed his master's program in Sociology. Her journalism life started as a reporter, photojournalist, editor and design at Hűrriyet Newspaper, then she moved to International Media, which has an international design award, and focused on design and worked as a newspaper page designer. Then he left journalism for a while and learned how to sail sailboats and yachts by operating a boat in Fethiye, Turkey's tourism region. While working as a boat operator, he started working remotely in graphic design and editing at Sabancı Holding in Turkey. In 2021, he started journalism with the network in the leather industry that he provided in his childhood and started his editorial life by preparing the Magazine Leather website.
