The fashion world gathered to celebrate the 2025 edition of the Real Leather. Stay Different. (RLSD) International Student Design Competition, spotlighting the next generation of designers championing sustainable fashion and natural materials.
The coveted Overall Winner title was awarded to Jamie Unlu O’Grady of De Montfort University, UK, for his modular footwear design “SubTraction.”
Blending innovation, versatility, and environmental awareness, O’Grady’s project impressed judges with its fresh take on responsible design.
“My dream is to take it from concept to product — something that can live in the real world and truly change how people buy, wear, and sustain their shoes,” said O’Grady.
The distinguished judging panel featured prominent names from the global fashion industry:

The international final took place in the iconic Taipei 101, where finalists presented their collections to a global audience.
One of the highlights was Farida Eid, named Africa’s Most Commendable Designer. Her work symbolized the creative rise of African fashion and its growing global influence.
“Africa doesn’t follow trends — it defines them,” said Eid, capturing the spirit of the night.
The RLSD competition continues to lead a global movement toward slow fashion, sustainability, and the timeless value of natural leather. This year’s message echoed loud and clear:
“Design slower. Live longer.”
