A new novel poised to reveal the hidden side of fashion publishing is already stirring excitement across the industry. Former Vogue editor Filipa Fino is preparing to release Best Dressed, a fictionalised account inspired by her years inside one of the world’s most influential fashion institutions.
The book is inevitably being compared to The Devil Wears Prada, the iconic 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, which sold more than 13 million copies worldwide and later became a blockbuster film. Weisberger’s story famously exposed the ruthless realities of early-2000s fashion media through the eyes of an assistant navigating the demanding world of glossy magazines.
What sets Best Dressed apart, however, is Fino’s position as a true insider. Having worked alongside legendary editor-in-chief Anna Wintour for more than a decade before leaving Vogue in 2011, Fino is believed to have witnessed far more than what has ever reached the public domain.
According to U.S. media reports, the novel includes never-before-shared anecdotes involving some of fashion’s most powerful figures. While the names of editors have reportedly been changed, many models, designers and celebrities appear under their real identities. Among the most talked-about episodes is an alleged 1998 meeting in Cuba involving Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Fidel Castro. The same trip is also said to include Leonardo DiCaprio, who was reportedly staying at Havana’s Hotel Nacional with Moss.
Best Dressed is scheduled for release in May 2026—coinciding with the theatrical debut of The Devil Wears Prada 2. Whether Fino’s novel will generate an impact comparable to its legendary predecessor remains to be seen, but anticipation within both fashion and publishing circles is already high.
