Leather Naturally, the global organization that promotes leather craftsmanship and contributes to the development of the craft, encourages artisans to participate in World Leather Day, held every year on the 26th of April.
World Leather Day, presented by the Leather Naturally organization to emphasize the longevity, beauty, repairability and most importantly, the place of leather, which is considered the blessing of the earth, in the circular economy by taking it out of the meat industry and out of waste, this valuable craft that overlaps with the history of humanity in the sector should be celebrated.
Leather Naturally has announced that World Leather Day will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025. This year’s theme, “Beyond the Surface” is designed to encourage a more in-depth look at leather as a material and to dispel misconceptions.
First launched in 2022, World Leather Day is a global movement dedicated to celebrating leather as a material and promoting a deeper understanding of the leather industry. World Leather Day is led by Leather Naturally and recognized by leather producers, traders, chemical companies, brands and retailers, leather workers and artisans, and many more organizations and individuals worldwide!
Beyond the Surface
This year Leather Naturally aims to encourage a deeper look at leather as a material and challenge preconceptions and superficial judgments. The “Beyond the Surface” campaign will focus on three key pillars:
- Transparency: Leather comes from animal hides, a by-product of the meat industry, making it an important player in the circular economy. Instead of being wasted, hides are turned into durable goods. By learning more about the origin of leather and its role in the circular economy, consumers can make more informed choices about the products they buy.
- Sustainability: Leather is a natural material that transforms waste that would otherwise be discarded into something durable and valuable. Leather can also be repaired and reused many times in its lifetime and lasts for decades. Leather therefore plays an important role in the circular economy.
- Longevity: Genuine leather is a timeless, durable material that lasts for decades. Unlike synthetic alternatives that can wear out quickly, genuine leather can be repaired, conditioned and enjoyed for years to come. Choosing genuine, animal-based leather means investing in quality, sustainability and craftsmanship.
