Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags once again demonstrated their strength as strategic international hubs at a time when global trade and supply chains are rapidly being reshaped. The January 2026 edition not only opened the Autumn/Winter 2026–27 season, but also reflected the new dynamics of Affinity Globalisation, where diversification has become a structural necessity.
As supply chains spread across a growing number of production countries, the ability to diversify markets, suppliers and product ranges is now essential. This shift was clearly visible in both the visitor profile and the content offered at Riva del Garda.
January 2026 in Numbers
The event welcomed nearly 8,000 visitors. While mature markets such as Italy, Germany and France recorded a slight contraction, strong growth came from countries including Poland, Belgium, Slovenia, Georgia and North Macedonia, as well as emerging markets such as Chile, Colombia and Kenya. The increased presence of Korean buyers further confirmed the fair’s role as a gateway to new markets, alongside a notable rise in operators from the e-commerce sector.
According to Alessandra Albarelli, General Manager of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, this diversity has led some to describe the event as the “United Colors of Shoes and Bags”, highlighting its international and inclusive character in a fragmented global landscape.
Diversification as a Competitive Lever
Canadian buyer Scott Sinclaire emphasised that the wide range of designs, materials, suppliers and price points allows companies to stand out in an increasingly competitive market. From the design perspective, BCN Design Studio’s Marta Artigas underlined Gardabags’ growing role as a key reference point for leather goods and luggage.
Beyond the Trade Fair: Content and Innovation
Diversification also shaped the event programme. The Highlights Area, developed in collaboration with Arsutoria, attracted strong attendance throughout the four days. Market Focus sessions provided strategic insights into the Americas, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
The Innovation Village Retail showcased the growing role of technology in retail and production. The Startup Competition was won by Solaya, recognised for its scalable solution enabling brands to create high-quality visual content through iPhone technology and advanced 3D modelling, reducing costs and accelerating omnichannel strategies.
A Platform with a Vision
New initiatives such as the Gardabags Showcase Area, the Garda Trentino Lounge for international media, and the return of Expo Riva Nights further strengthened the sense of community and long-term relationship building.
Looking ahead, Roberto Pellegrini, Chairman of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, stated that the event is set to evolve beyond footwear and bags into the global hub for volume fashion, driven by diversification and practical solutions for industry needs.
The next edition of Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags will take place from 13 to 16 June 2026.
