Although workplace accidents in the footwear sector are generally not severe, the frequency of incidents related to ergonomic risks remains high. The lack of adequate protective measures often leads to various occupational health problems that affect workers’ well-being.
To address this issue, the Spanish Federation of Footwear Industries (FICE) has launched a project aimed at raising awareness about ergonomic risks and fostering a culture of prevention through workplace design. The initiative focuses particularly on companies classified under CNAE code 1520, which covers footwear manufacturing.
The result will be an interactive 3D virtual tool that allows users to explore a simulated footwear production environment. Within this digital workspace, users can identify ergonomic risks such as awkward postures, manual load handling, and repetitive tasks. They will also be able to experiment with preventive solutions and visualize how anthropometric differences between men and women influence risk exposure.
This initiative is funded by the State Foundation for the Prevention of Occupational Risks (FSP) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy within the framework of the EEST 2023–2027 Program for sectoral actions in occupational risk prevention for the 2024 fiscal year.
According to FICE, the tool represents a step forward in promoting innovation and sustainable safety culture within the footwear industry—enhancing not only worker protection but also the competitiveness and modernity of the sector.
