He organized the launch of HEARTH Leather, which stands out with 91 percent less water and chemical use.
Italian leather manufacturer Rino Mastrotto has officially launched HEARTH, a groundbreaking leather innovation that reduces water use by 91% and chemical input by 23% in key production phases such as retanning, dyeing, and fatliquoring—without compromising on quality, look, or feel.
Unveiled in Florence, HEARTH represents a major milestone in the company’s journey toward more responsible leather production. It is designed to meet the demands of luxury brands seeking to lower their environmental impact while maintaining premium standards.
An independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) validated the product’s environmental benefits, including:
- 22% reduction in carbon emissions
- 25% less freshwater eutrophication
- 25% lower fossil resource use
- 7% less freshwater ecotoxicity
The comparative LCA followed ISO 14040 and 14044 standards, revealing that HEARTH saves around 38 liters of water per square meter of finished leather versus traditional methods.
Rino Mastrotto states that HEARTH sets a new benchmark for sustainable leather, offering global fashion brands an opportunity to express a deeper environmental commitment without sacrificing luxury, performance, or aesthetics.
