Making the Impossible Possible is not only an autobiography, but also a testimony of vision, family values, and the courage to challenge what is deemed impossible. From Melih Çelet’s first steps as a university student to DESA’s expansion into the heart of Italy, the book presents first-hand accounts of Türkiye’s industrialisation, export growth, and brand-building journey.
Edited by Nuri M. Çolakoğlu, the book is based on letters, documents, and photographs that Melih Çelet has carefully archived for more than 50 years.
From Eminönü to Italy
Reflecting on the early days, Melih Çelet recalls writing hundreds of letters to Europe and the United States at a time when the world felt out of reach:
“I spent almost 30,000 of the 50,000 lira my father gave me on postage stamps. This book is the story of where those stamps took us.”
“This Book Tells the Story of a Family”
DESA CEO Burak Çelet emphasised the family dimension of the story:
“DESA has always been more than a company for me. My childhood was spent on production lines and at trade fairs. Making the Impossible Possible is the story of a family that grew stronger together.”
Global Vision Rooted in Italy
Today, DESA accounts for more than 50% of Türkiye’s leather goods exports to Italy. The company’s R&D and production facility in Poppi, Tuscany, blends Turkish craftsmanship with Italian aesthetics, while showrooms in Milan and Paris position DESA collections in leading international boutiques.
After presenting its AW27 collection at Milan Fashion Week, DESA will once again take the runway in February 2026 as the only invited brand from Türkiye.
A Source of Inspiration for Young Entrepreneurs
Melih Çelet dedicates the book to those who refuse to give up when told something cannot be done, hoping it will serve as a compass for young people pursuing their dreams.
